Loosen the belt and see if the alternator spins easily-if it is tight or it spins by it self then you need a new one.

mayb not the belt...its alternator bearings...they make a belt dressing...at any parts store
the belt is slipping for whatever reason.if its tight enough, and its a new belt, and still slips, then theres stuff you can get at part stores dont know what its called. %26quot;no slip???%26quot; ive also heard of rubbing bar soap on the belt.
its probably the pulley itself that is the cause. if the %26quot;V%26quot; is real smooth you can use sandpaper in the %26quot;V%26quot; to knock some of the smoothness off of it or even go buy a new pully for your altenator if you want they arn,t that expensive but you will need a puller to take it off and most part stores will do it for you
