Drive belt dodge???

i own an intrepid, and recently i changed the alternator myself, and i changed the belt because it was a little cracked. so my car works ok.

but i heard with some friends that the drive belt's tension has to be adjusted according with the car.

so do i have to get the car to check the drive belt is well adjusted??? and if i leave it like that, it might damage the engine????
Drive belt dodge???
If your car has a automatic belt tensioner, that automatically adjusts belt preload.on the other hand if the belt is not squealing your probably ok,no need to worry
Drive belt dodge???
The belt you are speaking of should have tensioner. When the other answerer said %26quot;automatic%26quot; they were refering to the spring loaded pulley you had to move to put the belt on. These do not require any adjustment. If they go bad it will start throwing the belt off. The only ones that need adjusting have a threaded adjustment screw. I don't believe yours is one of them. If it is spring loaded you're fine and it won't damage your engine. The belt is called an Accessorie Drive Belt .......just a technicality.
the belt or belts under the hood have nothing to do with your transmission - your trans belt is - you guessed it in the transmission.
