How Do I Change Serpentine Belt On 2004 Taurus?

On older vehicles you can simply loosen a bolt on the alternator bracket and go from there. This one looks a little more complicated. its a 3.0 liter V-6. Front of engine is on passenger side of car.

There is a tension pulley that keeps pressure on the belt. All you need to do is hook a ratchett to it and relieve the pressure while you slip the belt off and the new one on. It will be the pulley that is not connected to any kind of alternator or compressor.

has idler bearing down low put a 3/8 ratchet in and off loads tension remove old r+r let slack out same way
Special tool required or a 3/8 drive ratchet. Be careful because the tensioner has a lot of force behind it and you could hurt yourself.
you need to back off the tension-er by using the tools previously mentioned if you are strong enough otherwise you need more leverage. You can borrow a special tool for this purpose from auto Zone or Kragen which will make the job easier. be sure to study the belt pattern before removing so you can have a good idea how the new one goes on. so you just relive the tension, slip off the old belt and then put the new one on.
take it to the shop-not a job for inexp-or at least buy the manual-
