Is the drive belt the same as the timing belt?

The alternator has to be changed and a friend said he could do it. But I'm worried that belt might not be installed right and that might damage the engine.

I'm talking about the belt that is outside on the engine, near the fan

The timing belt is inside the front cover on the engine.

The altenator belt will not hurt engine.

Let your friend do it. It is an easy job. The drive belt is not the same as the timing belt.
Drive belt is not the same as the timing belt.If the belt routing is not still located under the hood local Advance or AutoZone should have a belt routing they can print off.Unless your friend is a complete nimrod it's fairly easy to do.
