Belt comes off 99 firebird? 3.6 V6?

I changed my alternator and serpentine belt, then about a month later the belt started coming off.

Now it's 2 months since then, the belt comes off much more frequent.

The alternator doesn't seem to be in-line with everything, would this have anything to do with it?

ALSO, my water pump has a small leak, and it leaks right on the belt, would that cause it to slip off?

Thanks!

THAT belt should be lined up, and have proper tension, the reason it is coming off is there is a problem, it sounds like it was twisted, and it is stretching as we speak, it is kind of a big rubber band go to a shop, and get the new belt done right, before you end up stuck on the side of the road good luck

A serpentine belt is designed to be very ridged when flexing side to side under tension. If your alternator was replaced and does not line up with the other accessories on the front of the car this is the cause. Also running with misaligned components will damage the belt over time. Fix the alignment problem first and then replace the belt with a new one.

The wrong alternator could have been installed or a spacer was left out when mounting it.

Water dripping on the belt could possibly cause it to slip but not come off.
