How do you release tension on drive belt to change alternator on AU2 Ford Fairmont?

Put a long spanner in the tensioner idle pulley nut and tighten it. This will move the tensioner towards the front and loosen the belt|||very carefully|||I%26#039;d use a Buck knife but some of my buddies prefer to use a chain saw.
